Echinodorus Barthii
Echinodorus Barthii
The Echinodorus 'Barthii' is a cultivar.
This means that this species does not occur in nature, but has been created by humans. This is done by selecting plants for certain properties, such as the colour or shape of the leaf. And through vegetative propagation, crossing or grafting a new species is created.
The Echinodorus 'Barthii' (also called the Echinodorus 'Double Red') is a characteristic rosette plant with young deep red to older dark green leaves, with visible veins.
This plant is not a fast grower, but can reach a height of 25 to sometimes 50 centimeters in time and the rosette can also become about 30 centimeters wide. The Echinodorus 'Barthii' likes to be solitary, in the middle or back zone of a large aquarium. The Echinodorus 'Barthii' looks best next to some light green plant species.
The water temperature should be between 20°C and 28°C, moderate lighting is appreciated and a good breeding ground is a requirement for almost all Echinodorus species.
In terms of maintenance, it is wise to prune this plant occasionally. Remove dead leaves and, if necessary, also the excess leaf growth. This is because the Echinodorus 'Barthii', when the plant is fully grown, may take away a lot of light from the other plants in your aquarium.
